SUMMER JAZZ WORKSHOP

June 28 - July 1, 2010

An intensive four-day experience culminating in public performance with international guest artists, our process-oriented curriculum is designed to balance combo, one-on-one coaching, master class and public performance environments in a supportive atmosphere, guided by the finest regional and national musician-educators.

In a nurturing and user-friendly manner, our students are led through highly educational and inspirational activities in a convenient day-school environment, culminating in a grand concert.

We will again present our “Big Band Lab” in which students develop skills in large ensemble sight-reading and phrasing.

All students 18 and under are eligible for the program. Our policy is to accept promising, motivated students at all levels of expertise. Those accepted will be placed in a combo with others of comparable experience at improvising. Additional performance opportunities are offered at the NYS Fair and the NE Jazz and Wine Festival.

Our program is located in the Art and Home Center at the NYS Fairgrounds. The school day is 9AM — 5PM, with a Grand Finale on Thursday evening. No transportation is provided by the program.

Enrollment is not rigidly based on big band instrumentation. Students who play any instrument, not only those associated with the jazz ensemble, may attend.

No auditions are necessary for admission to the program. Simply fill out the REGISTRATION FORMSand mail to the CNYJAF with your deposit. On the first day of the program, short placement auditions will be held in order to place students in the ensemble most appropriate to their skill level.

Students should bring a self-prepared piece with CD accompaniment, and/or be prepared to sight-read and improvise to CD accompaniment provided.

Tuition for the entire workshop and evening performance with our national guest artist-clinician is $325. A $150 minimum  deposit is due with each registration with the balance ($175) due by May 21, 2010. (Tuition is Non-Refundable)

ADDITIONAL SIBLINGS MAY ATTEND!!!!!!  SAVE $100 on each additional family member (18 and under) registered by May 21, 2010
