MARK KELLOGG & THE CNYJO OPEN JAZZ CENTRAL'S CABARET SEASON
Posted: November 8, 2011CNY Jazz Central’s 16th season opens Sunday, Nov. 20, 2011 in the Sheraton Syracuse University’s Grand Ballroom with a concert featuring trombonist Mark Kellogg backed by the 16-piece CNY Jazz Orchestra directed by Bret Zvacek. Doors open at 4 p.m. with Kellogg taking the stage at 6 p.m.
Kellogg is Associate Professor of Trombone, Euphonium, and Brass Chamber Music at the Eastman School of Music. He holds the position of Principal Trombone in the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, and as a jazz musician, he has performed with Clark Terry, Wynton Marsalis, and Mel Tormé. His newly released jazz recording with pianist Tony Caramia—Upstate Standards—celebrates the music of Upstate New York composers Harold Arlen, Alec Wilder, and Jimmy Van Heusen. The CNY Jazz Orchestra is an award-winning, all-star, regional “big band” made up of Central New York's finest jazz musicians. Led by internationally acclaimed Music Director Bret Zvacek, CNYJO performs concerts that feature the world’s finest guest soloists. The CNYJO is the flagship program of CNY Jazz Central, whose mission is to sustain the art form of jazz by presenting, performing, and teaching jazz in a variety of public and scholastic settings.
Tickets to the concert are $25 if purchased prior to Nov. 20, or $30 at the door. At all cabaret events, Sheraton SU will offer a cash bar and affordable buffet stations. All 2011-2012 cabaret season subscribers, and donors to CNY Jazz, receive a “CNY Jazz Club Discount Card” good for validated parking at all CNY Jazz/Sheraton SU events, as well as 10% off food and drinks at “JAZZ@SITRUS” jazz club events held on selected Fridays in Sheraton’s SU SITRUS lounge.
Sustaining its strong commitment to music education, CNY Jazz has arranged for Kellogg to give a FREE MUSIC CLINIC at Music & Arts, 4106 Route 31, Clay, NY on Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2011 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Aspiring classical and jazz musicians of all ages are encouraged to listen to words of wisdom from one of the world’s foremost trombone musicians. Free concert admissions will be raffled off.
