CNY Jazz Series Comes to Bob Cecile Senior and Community Center

Syracuse NY – South Side and Valley residents won’t have to travel far to enjoy family friendly neighborhood concerts, with the creation of the “Summer Jazz at the Bob Cecile Center” series. The facility, a converted firehouse at 174 West Seneca Turnpike, will host three events in 2018, in partnership with CNY Jazz Central.

The Cecile Center offers a host of recreational fitness and advocacy programs and a wide variety of activities for the community’s senior population, including speakers, day trips, Bingo, exercise programs, various health screening programs, holiday parties, legal services, and daily lunches.

“This series brings a new dimension to our offerings for neighborhood adults, families and seniors,” according to Lauren Townes, Director of the center. Larry Luttinger, director of CNY Jazz Central, “We’ve programmed concerts to appeal to all ages, with presentations that reach out and entertain. The Great American Songbook will be celebrated by the region’s finest vocalists, backed by top flight musicians.”

The series will take place in the outdoor courtyard of the center, weather permitting, and will take place in the center’s community room otherwise. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs for outdoor events. All concerts are free, and ice cream and food is readily available at the nearby Arctic Island and Broadway Café. The series is sponsored by the Meacham Area Parks Association (MAPA), a non-profit charity that serves the residents of the Valley neighborhood and visitors to the Valley parks.
