CNY Jazz fall season launches at Cavalier Room

Syracuse NY – CNY Jazz launches its 2021-2022 season with an expanded “Jazz at the Cavalier” jazz club series, coming back to the Marriott Syracuse Downtown for a fourth season with an artist roster that will now include national artists as well as well-known regional talent.  The shows are presented weekly on Wednesdays from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. starting September 15th and are free of charge.

The series still adheres to its supper club “vocalist plus grand piano accompaniment” format, with expanded instrumentation and a few surprises. Nancy Kelly, well-known icon of the national jazz vocal scene, inaugurates the series with a September 15th show, followed by a revolving lineup including favorites like Scott Dennis, Mike Houston and Sam Wynn, Ronnie Leigh, Rick Montalbano and Julie Falatico, John Rohde’s Pastabilities Trio, Rochester’s Jon Seiger, Stringdom, and national names Anne Farnsworth and Marianne Solivan.

Los Angeles transplant Anne Farnsworth anchors the series, appearing six times through the end of May. A singer and pianist, author, songwriter, and journalist, Farnsworth is a Fulbright Scholar and former University of Southern California professor who tours internationally. She will lead her trio through jazz standards and her intelligent rearrangements of pop titles. Brooklyn’s Marianne Solivan, new jazz vocal faculty at S.U. will provide the energy she regularly exudes at regular dates in New York’s finest venues including Dizzy’s Club Coca Cola and Smalls.

“I’ve never been more excited for a jazz club series like this,” said Larry Luttinger of CNY Jazz. “Shows like this is bigger cities come with heavy cover charges. Here, due to the amazing commitment of the Marriott, its free. We’re delighted to add nationally known heavyweights like Anne and Marianne to the lineup, and we’ve added an additional musician to each combo, on average. That’s more of everything in my book. Add new menu selections from Eleven Waters restaurant in the hotel, and you’ve got quite a package.”

Pre-pandemic “CNY Jazz Club” cards will still be honored through November for ten percent discounts off food and drink. The entire schedule and information on how to get a card with a minimal charitable donation can be found at https://www.cnyjazz.org/jazz-at-the-cavalier/
