OCTOBER 20: SHAKE HANDS WITH THE DEVIL
(1959) James Cagney plays an academic at the College of Surgeons in Dublin who turns into a die-hard opponent of the 1922 Treaty. American-made film, unusually, is not on the side of the Republicans. Sir Michael Redgrave plays a character called "The General," unmistankenly based on Michael Collins. Shot on location with many familiar Irish faces in supporting roles. A fast-moving entertainment, did excellent business in North America in the year of the release.
