CNY Jazz Launches New Season of Series with Le Moyne College

Syracuse NY – CNY Jazz and Le Moyne College continue their multi-faceted cultural partnership by presenting a fifth season of multiple music series at Le Moyne Plaza, the venue at 1135 Salt Springs Road owned and operated by the college. All events are free and open to the public. CNY Jazz Club cardholders will receive 10% off products from Cam’s Pizza, located in the plaza.

Jazz at the Plaza, the Wednesday “lunch and listen” jazz series, will begin September 5th and present 30 events weekly through May 22nd. From noon until 2:00 pm, a widely varied lineup of artists will perform, including Latin crossover by Edgar Pagan, the Eastern-inflected sounds of Kanjira, Brazilian Bossa Nova from LuBossa, and a strong collection of straight-ahead swing and jazz groups led by John Spillett, Matthew Rockwell, Jeff Martin, Peter Allen, and others. New faces include the silky sounds of the Great American songbook sung by Kerryanna, and saxophonist Steve Daniels, veteran of Rusted Root, Gym Class Heroes, the Tragically Hip, and many other touring shows. Every other week, a “house duo” led by Dave Solazzo will perform.

Parties in the Plaza, a singer-songwriter series that will take place monthly on Saturdays from 5:00 to 8:00 pm, will take a new turn, presenting nationally recognized professionals in an open-mike format that will allow the area’s aspiring songwriters to perform in the third hour of the concerts. The list of musical hosts includes Loren Barrigar, Todd Hobin, The Cadleys, Frenay & Lenin, and Mark Hoffmann, whose group will kick off the series on September 15th.

The CNY Jazz Scholastic Jazz Jam Series continues for a fifth year at the plaza, on select Saturdays from 2:00 to 5:00 pm. This open jam session is hosted by a quartet comprised of members of the CNY Jazz Orchestra led by saxophonist and Le Moyne College Jazz Ensemble Director Joe Carello. Any improviser of any age and ability level is invited to sit in and play the songs of their choice at this series. Four jams are scheduled, two during the fall semester and two during the spring semester.
