TWO NEW MUSIC SERIES BLOSSOM AT SUGAR MAGNOLIA

Syracuse NY – Armory Square’s newest and coziest destination for traditional southern and southern inspired cuisine will become Syracuse’s newest cultural destination, thanks to two new weekly series designed and presented in partnership with CNY Jazz. A groundbreaking series called “Page to Stage” will present come-one come-all spoken word, slam poetry, poetry reading, and storytelling events on Wednesdays from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. “Jazz at the Magnolia” will present an eclectic lineup of live jazz, soul, and Americana on Thursdays from 6:00 to 9:00 pm.  As a “CNY Jazz Club” venue, 10% food and drink discounts will be available to CNY Jazz cardholders at all these events. There are no cover charges.

Both series will debut for the venue’s grand opening week starting September 19th. The Wednesday spoken word accompanist is Dan Pugh, and Edgar Pagan’s GPL Lite will kick off the Thursday lineup.

The creative strategy behind this effort belongs to Katherine Lowe, proprietor, executive chef, and former arts administrator with the Cultural Resources Council (now CNY Arts) and Larry Luttinger, founder and Executive Director of CNY Jazz Central. “Katherine came to me with an incredibly strong concept melding her cuisine and drink menu with her diverse artistic interests,” according to Luttinger. “We’ve been acquainted since her days as an arts administrator for our arts council, back when it was called the Cultural Resources Council. The results of what we cooked up will be evident to patrons. There’s no way to describe it other than fun, hip, cozy and cool to the extreme. If you live the creative life, you have to check this out.” The Thursday night talent roster trends toward the funky, fashionable, and unconventional, with acts including Joanna Jewett, Deyquan and Yajha Bowens, Maria DeAngelis, Kanjira, Jeff Stockham, Jessy Chick, Melissa Gardiner, and others.
